About Us


Squeaky Hinge Olive Oil is a small, family-owned business run by Simon Gibbard and Nicola Mulvena, based in the rural farming community of Tarras, just 30km north of Cromwell in Central Otago.

Our olive grove, home to around 350 trees, was originally established in 2002. Since purchasing the property in 2011, Simon and Nicola have nurtured it into a thriving producer of premium extra virgin olive oil. Today, our oil is enjoyed in restaurants and cafés across New Zealand and has built a loyal following among customers who value quality and provenance.

While Squeaky Hinge has grown into one of Central Otago’s notable olive oil producers, we remain hands-on in every stage of the process. We prefer to be involved in as much of the harvesting and production stage of the oil as we can. The grove is spray free and follows organic principles.

Harvest time is one of the highlights of our year; a social occasion, where friends and family come together to help hand-pick every olive, ensuring minimal damage and the highest quality fruit. Once harvested, the olives are processed off-site, in Cromwell. The oil left to settle, before Nicola and her team bottle and label it by hand.
